Activities and visits in Cannes

Elegant Cannes

Treat yourself to a stay in Cannes, and discover its rich culture. This city on the French Riviera, steeped in millennial history dating back to the Antique period, will unveil a host of buildings listed as historic monuments.

This seaside resort, which has been a popular destination since the 19th century, is renowned throughout the world for its La Croisette boulevard, which runs the length of the coast and its beach, with a pedestrian zone lined with listed luxury hotels. What could be better than a stroll admiring the stunning view of the bay and the elegantly decorated and animated luxury boutiques, while enjoying the mild Mediterranean climate whatever the season? A guaranteed change of scenery!

During this period, Cannes became a prized holiday destination for the aristocracy, who came to relax and take in the seaside air on the French Riviera. The city's villas flourished, characterised by the elegant Belle-Epoque style, as well as Baroque, Classic and Art Deco styles, villas that are today listed as historical monuments: Villa Rothschild (now the city library), Villa Romée and Villa Domergue among others.

Art and history lovers will appreciate the Musée de la Castre, located on the heights of the old city, in the former medieval castle. Collections of primitive art pieces and Mediterranean antiquities are exhibited here, along with 19th-century paintings. Take advantage of your visit to the museum to stroll through the Le Suquet district, the oldest in the city, and immerse yourself in the pleasant atmosphere of its picturesque little lanes with their unique charm.

Natural Cannes

At just a 20-minute boat ride away, set out to explore the Lérins Islands, magnificent havens of tranquillity in the bay of Cannes.

Two of the islands in particular – Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat - invite you to admire their unique wild plant and animal life, and discover their historical treasures: Sainte-Marguerite's royal fort, in which the mysterious "Man in the Iron Mask" was imprisoned, and Saint-Honorat's formerly fortified monastery, a feature of the island since 410.
